There are a large number of international schools in Malaysia to be found in large urban centres such as Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown, Malacca, Ipoh, and Petaling Jaya. Fewer international teaching jobs in Malaysia are located in smaller towns and rural areas, but these are beginning to emerge. While some international schools offer full K-12 provision, others specialise in early years, primary or secondary education. Primary teaching jobs in Malaysia are common. Most international schools in Malaysia are accredited and deliver an internationally recognised curriculum such as the International Baccalaureate, US Common Core, or the National Curriculum for England. Teachers of most grades and subjects should find it relatively easy to find teaching jobs in Malaysia international schools.

How to Find Teaching Jobs in Malaysia International Schools

International School Jobs Malaysia

International schools in Malaysia operate on a Western academic calendar, with 2 semesters running from August to December and from January to June or July. There will often be two intakes for hiring, one in September and one in January. The hiring process for teaching jobs in Malaysia will normally start in October or November of the previous year. Please note: not all vacancies are open to expatriates – management and support roles are most often filled locally. The most commonly posted opportunities for expats teaching abroad in Malaysia include early years, primary, and secondary teaching openings, principal and coordinator positions, SEN and learning support teachers, as well school counsellor and teacher librarian vacancies. The language of instruction in most international schools in Malaysia will be English, however some schools are bilingual. A teacher’s licence, QTS or similar is normally required for teaching jobs in Malaysia international schools.
